TASK 1. Imagine that you are preparing а project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.
Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar System with а diameter of 142 984 kilometres. This is 11 times blgger than the diameter of the Earth. It is the fifth planet from the Sun. Jupiter is called а gas giant, as it is large and made up of gas. The other gas giants are Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
Jupiter can be seen with the naked eye. lt was known to the ancient Romans, who named it after their god Jupiter. Jupiter is the third brightest object in the night sky. Only the Earth’s moon and Venus are brighter.
Jupiter is twice as massive as all the other planets in the Solar System put together. lt gives off more heat than it gets from the Sun. Jupiter is 11 times the width of the Earth and 318 times as massive.
Jupiter has а thin planetary ring system. These rings are difficult to see and were not discovered until 1979 by NASA’s Voyager 1 probe.
